MY COMMUNITY HEALTH ROTATION

Summer Health Fair
MENTAL HEALTH CALIFORNIA
In partnership with the SRCC
During my community health rotation I participated in the planning and execution of Summer Health Fair at the Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps (SRCC). Class members of the accelerated BSN class and myself met as a committee to plan and assign responsibilities for the fair. Then we collaborated with staff at the SRCC to move forward with our plan. Our target population was 18 to 26 year-old students, workers of the program and their families. Our objective was to offer blood pressure and vision screening, informational booths (mental health resources offered in the Sacramento area), and a nutrition and water booth. We also received fresh vegetable and fruit donations from local grocery stores to give away at the fair. My role was to secure the donations of fresh fruits and vegetables, and make a nutritional board (with a focus on simple yet health meal plans) for the students as well as interact and offer national education at my booth during the fair. The event lasted approximately 4 hours and we had over 100 attendees; This experience was a lesson in collaboration with our committee members as well as staff at the SRCC. Our team pulled together as a group, cooperated, assisted each other to reach our goal on time. Our team rocked!
