REFLECTIVE REFLECTION

The reflective exercises in this program have changed my nursing identity which has changed my nursing practice. Putting it simply, I have gone from a task-focused nurse to a patient-focused nurse doing tasks; with an emphasis on patient.  Today when I interact with my patients I strive to listen, be authentic in my interactions, smile and use touch to comfort.  I pay attention to their body language and mine as well.  I am happy to say that I am in the moment and it feels good and right.  Through practicing these skills I have also become more connected with my fellow workmates, which has reinforced my practice.  I guess I am experiencing a bit of Yin and Yang; how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconnected, and interdependent in the natural world.  My practice has changed and those around me have responded to that change. Maybe this was always happening and I just didn't get it.  I'm not sure.  What I do know is that reflection is a process that I will continue because it is my source of connection.

Connection doesn't care about the laws of the land.  Your soul will be pulled to the place it belongs.
